This is a super WIP with basically just the map and items being updated I’m gauging interest here to see whether I’ll keep this as a pet project or invest more time. Depending on the interest, I’m also looking at making an actual mod with a proper map and all that!
The goal of this mod is to keep it text-only, in order to make it native-compatible. I’m very much looking for ideas on improved locations - there’s a bunch of villages whose existence isn’t really attested in 950, and I’m sure there are better picks for some locations in terms of importance/relevance. I’ve also had to “ignore” big central European powers like Poland or Bulgaria, or Spain/England in the West. Notably, the whole Celtic blob is awkwardly placed in the Netherlands, but not much to do here.
The date and locations choices aren’t perfect I’ve had to warp the geography somewhat to make it fit. The IRL inspirations and general correspondance of the map to Europe were too tempting to ignore, so here's a first draft! Iron Century is a text-based conversion of Bannerlord to give a little historical flair to Calradia. A year of blood, a time of chaos and opportunity. And to the south, from the Pillars of Hercules to the Holy Land, the Fatimid Caliphate conquers by the sword and the Book. To the north, the Kievan princes of the Rus’ marshall their warriors to the east, the united khans of Khazaria ride on thunder hooves. The Emperor in the East still flies the Roman eagle from the walls of Byzantium, but Christendom is surrounded. Solid, consistent impact and added forgiveness come from an aerospace-grade aluminium insert (AlumiCore) joined to a forged 1025 carbon steel body and 17-4 SS laser-cut face. The last Emperor of the West died twenty-five years ago, leaving the kingdoms of France, Italy and Germany at the mercy of rising powers. A faster face and flexing geometry generate more speed and distance from a smaller head that also sets a new standard in forgiveness for an iron its size.
