It’s up to you to take your Sims from the cradle to the grave, fulfill their dreams, and push them to extremes in The Sims 2. Every life choice you make has a relevant and dramatic effect on the lifetime of your Sim. With the ground-breaking addition of genetics, your Sims now pass their DNA down through generations giving you a more vivid and in-depth Sims experience. In the next generation sequel of The Sims, The Sims 2, you control your Sims over an entire lifetime for the first time. I did install the “don’t look for updates” patch someone listed after installing base game but I don’t think it’s necessary because as soon as you apply Sims 2 base game patch, it must overwrite it as it does look for updates (but you’ll already have them installed so it will see that and let you proceed).The Sims™ changed the face of gaming in the new millennium and quickly became the #1 PC game of all time. Prior to this, I couldn’t even get past University. I’m installing them all myself today and am having no trouble using the above method. The reason for this is to ensure you have each expansion/stuff pack’s patch properly installed FIRST.
For this reason, it is crucial that you apply the games in order as listed above. As long as you have it applied, Pets will pass and you can continue on.
This immediately precedes installing the Pets expansion which will be looking for this update when it’s finishing installing. Please note, there is only one stuff pack (Family Fun Stuff) that requires a patch. Install each expansion in order and the proper patch for each expansion immediately thereafter. It will check each time to see if you are patched but it will immediately say you are up to date and then successfully complete. THEN install University and then apply the University patch from MDS. What you need to do is install Sims 2 then manually patch Sims 2 base game from the Mod the Sims patches page.
